Abstract
Abstract
In recent years, social media has become a major influence on democratic systems by reshaping the ways political content
is created, distributed, and interpreted. This study examines how digital platforms affect political participation, opinion
formation, voting behavior, and institutional accountability. A mixed-method approach was used, combining survey-based
primary data with insights from academic literature and institutional reports.
The findings indicate that social media enhances political awareness and encourages civic engagement, particularly among
younger individuals. However, challenges such as misinformation, algorithmic bias, ideological polarization, and targeted
influence campaigns remain significant concerns. Evidence from international studies, including reports by Pew Research
Center (2022) and OECD (2021), reflects this mixed impact.
Keywords
The study concludes that social media functions both as an enabler of democratic engagement and a source of potential disruption. It highlights the importance of digital literacy
transparent governance of platforms
and effective regulatory measures to ensure a balanced and constructive role.
